How we started

One of us kept the firm running. The other studied why people decide.

We met at The Decision Lab, a behavioral science consultancy working with clients around the world.

Monty ran its operations: hiring, vendors, systems, and the day-to-day work that kept a growing firm stable. Jyn researched and wrote about how people actually make decisions, and why they often don't do what the data says they should.

We kept seeing the same thing with founders. They knew what they wanted to build but were guessing about their market, and their teams were buried in repeat work. Hecaton Labs puts both skills in one place: research to find out what's true, and operations to act on it.

Monty has spent ten years as the person founders hand things to. He has run operations for a European design agency, a behavioral science consultancy in Montreal, and the commercial arm of a Trappist monastery in the Philippines. He builds the systems himself: SOPs, dashboards, outbound engines and, increasingly, AI agents.

  • Built a design agency's operating foundation from scratch: onboarding, policies, SOPs, and security for client data
  • Hired five research analysts end to end and built the recruiting workflows behind them
  • Designed outbound email and SEO content systems for a US managed IT provider

Jyn turns messy questions into evidence. She has done market research at Kantar, worked at the Philippine Stock Exchange, and researched and wrote for The Decision Lab, applying behavioral science to how people really behave. Her work spans market and development research, data analytics, and behavioral insights.

The name

Hekaton means one hundred.

In Greek myth, the Hekatoncheires were three giants with a hundred hands each. They didn't rule anything. They did the heavy work that won the war of the Titans. That's the job we want: many hands, pointed in one direction, for the people leading the business.
